NTPC Kanti Achieves 126% Ash Utilisation; Expands CSR Initiatives in Health, Education and Skill Development

NTPC Limited’s Kanti Thermal Power Station has achieved an impressive 126% ash utilisation during the current year, setting a benchmark in sustainable power generation. The achievement reflects the plant’s strong environmental commitment and efficient operational practices.
Addressing a press meet, Sanjib Kumar Suar, Head of Project, NTPC Kanti, highlighted the station’s consistent focus on safety, efficiency, and community development.
Strong Safety and Operational Excellence
The station has maintained an excellent safety record with zero fatal accidents over the last four years, underscoring a robust safety culture and disciplined workforce. Continuous initiatives are underway to improve operational efficiency and enhance generation capacity.
Focus on Community Healthcare
As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, NTPC Kanti is actively working to improve healthcare access in surrounding areas:
- Weekly medical camps benefiting thousands of villagers
- Dedicated ambulance services for pregnant women and newborns
- Free health check-ups, medicines, and diagnostic tests
Boost to Education and Girl Empowerment
The project is also contributing significantly to the education sector:
- Establishment of two smart classrooms in nearby schools
- Under the Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM), 40 girls receive one month of residential training annually
Skill Development and Women Empowerment
To promote self-reliance and economic empowerment among women, NTPC Kanti has introduced several skill development programmes:
- Sewing machine training
- Bakery training
- Pickle-making training
Additionally, 18 students sponsored for training at Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET), Hajipur, have successfully secured employment, boosting local livelihood opportunities.
Infrastructure and Environmental Initiatives
NTPC Kanti has also contributed to local infrastructure and environmental sustainability:
- Construction of roads and drainage systems
- Distribution of around 900 desks in nearby schools
- Plantation of over 70,000 saplings
The station’s 126% ash utilisation achievement further reinforces its commitment to sustainable practices and efficient waste management.
