NTPC Vindhyachal Hosts National Workshop on Smart Ash Dyke Management

A key highlight was the field visit to the Shahpur Ash Dyke, providing participants with practical exposure to on-ground best practices and operational innovations

In a significant step towards strengthening sustainable and technology-driven operations, NTPC Vindhyachal successfully conducted a two-day workshop on “Smart Ash Dyke Management: Integrating Technology, Safety & Sustainability” on March 23–24, 2026, at Umang Bhawan Auditorium.

Organized by CC-OS in association with NTPC Vindhyachal, the workshop brought together domain experts, station representatives, and industry specialists to deliberate on advanced practices for safe and efficient ash dyke management.

The programme was inaugurated virtually by Bidya Nand Jha, Executive Director (OS), in the presence of A.J. Rajkumar, GM (O&M), NTPC Vindhyachal, who welcomed participants and emphasized the importance of innovation in environmental safety. Senior officials including Ch. Kishore Kumar (GM, O&M, Singrauli) and Pranaya Kumar Nayak (GM, O&M, Rihand), along with GMs, AGMs, and Heads of Departments, also attended the event.

The workshop featured comprehensive sessions on critical areas such as smart ash dyke management systems, real-time monitoring through digital instrumentation, drone-based surveillance, and AI/ML-driven anomaly detection. Experts from premier institutions like IIT Kanpur, along with leading technology partners, shared insights on cutting-edge solutions including the use of geosynthetics for dyke strengthening, eradication of water hyacinth, and integrated IT systems for safe ash utilisation.

The event also enabled cross-learning through presentations from multiple NTPC stations including Vindhyachal, TSTPS, Rihand, SSTPS, Korba, and Jhajjar, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange across units.

The workshop concluded with an interactive feedback session and certificate distribution, reaffirming NTPC’s commitment to sustainability, safety, and technological advancement in ash dyke management.
