Nuclear Power Plant To Be Set Up In Bihar, Central Government Gives Approval: Union Power Minister Manohar Lal

This announcement came at the Power Ministers' Conference today

Taking a major step towards promoting nuclear energy across the country, the Central Government has announced plans to set up six Small Modular Reactors (SMRs). Union Power Minister Manohar Lal has revealed that one of these nuclear power plants will be established in Bihar.

This announcement came during the recent Power Ministers’ Conference, where the Bihar government had requested the establishment of a nuclear power plant in the state. Responding to this, Union Power Minister said, “If the Bihar government sets up a nuclear power plant, the Central Government is fully prepared to provide support.”

The minister also stated that in the coming times, India will need more power to meet its growing demand. He emphasized, “We aim to set up a nuclear power plant in every state to ensure the country’s energy security.”

This will be the first-ever nuclear power plant in Bihar. It is expected not only to provide a stable energy source but also to boost investment, employment, and technological advancement in the region.

What is a Small Modular Reactor (SMR)?

SMRs are small-scale nuclear reactors that can be built faster, at lower cost, and with enhanced safety compared to traditional large reactors. They are particularly suitable for regions with moderate power demand where large-scale plants may not be feasible.

This is a historic opportunity for Bihar. With the Central Government’s green signal, a revolutionary shift is expected in the state’s energy landscape. All eyes are now on how quickly the Bihar government implements this proposal.
