ONGC Swiftly Mobilises Emergency Response After Gas Leak at Mori Field in Andhra Pradesh

No injury or loss of life reported; crisis management teams deployed, international well-control experts alerted

ONGC has swiftly activated its emergency response mechanism following a gas leak incident reported during workover operations at Well Mori#5 in the Mori Field of Andhra Pradesh.

The incident was reported on January 5, 2026, by the Production Enhancement Contract (PEC) operator, Deep Industries Limited. According to official information, the well is located in a remote area with no human habitation within a radius of approximately 500–600 metres. No injury or loss of life has been reported.

As an immediate precautionary measure, the affected area has been cordoned off and cooling operations have commenced. ONGC has mobilised its Crisis Management Team (CMT) and Regional Crisis Management Team (RCMT) to manage the situation and oversee containment efforts.

Preparatory work is currently underway to facilitate well-control operations and, if required, capping of the well. In parallel, ONGC has initiated coordination with international well-control specialists, including mobilisation planning for advanced well-control and casing-cutting operations, subject to site assessment and operational requirements.

ONGC’s senior management and technical experts are closely monitoring the situation. Additional equipment and resources are being mobilised from nearby ONGC locations, including Narsapuram, to ensure timely and effective response.

The company has stated that further updates will be shared as the situation evolves.
