PESB Fails to Find Suitable Candidate for Director (Commercial), SAIL

Out of 12 applicants interviewed, six were from SAIL itself

In a surprising development, the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB), the government’s premier headhunting agency for top posts in public sector undertakings, has not found any candidate suitable for the position of Director (Commercial) at Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), a Maharatna PSU.

A total of 12 candidates appeared for the interview, including six internal candidates from SAIL. Despite the strong internal representation, the PESB concluded that none of the applicants met the criteria or standards expected for this critical leadership role.

Following this outcome, the matter has been referred to the Search-cum-Selection Committee or will be addressed through other appropriate mechanisms, with the approval of the competent authority.

The Director (Commercial) position is a key portfolio at SAIL, responsible for overseeing the company’s marketing, sales, and customer engagement strategy at both domestic and international levels.

This development highlights the growing challenges in finding top-tier leadership talent within the public sector ecosystem, even within India’s largest steelmaker.

The list of those who appeared for the interview is given below for the viewers of www.indianpsu.com
