Adequate Petrol, Diesel Stocks Across India; LPG Supply Stable Amid West Asia Crisis

All refineries are operating at high capacity, backed by sufficient crude inventories to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply

The Government of India has reassured citizens that adequate stocks of petrol and diesel are available across all fuel stations nationwide, even as geopolitical tensions in West Asia continue to evolve.

According to an official update issued by PIB Delhi, all refineries are operating at high capacity, backed by sufficient crude inventories to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply. Retail outlets across the country are functioning normally.

The government clarified that recent panic buying in certain regions was triggered by rumours, not actual shortages, and urged citizens to avoid misinformation.

LPG Supply Remains Strong

Domestic LPG distribution continues without disruption, with over 54 lakh cylinders delivered in a single day. Authorities confirmed that there are no dry-outs reported at distributorships, and delivery systems are functioning smoothly.

To maintain supply integrity, the use of Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) has significantly increased, reducing the chances of diversion.

On the commercial front, LPG allocation has now been increased to 70% of pre-crisis levels, with priority given to essential sectors such as hospitality, food processing, and key industries. Since March 14, a total of 33,781 metric tonnes of non-domestic LPG has been uplifted by commercial entities.

Government Takes Strategic Measures

To stabilise domestic supply:

  • Excise duty on petrol and diesel has been reduced by ₹10 per litre
  • Export levies imposed on diesel and ATF to prioritise domestic availability

Additionally, the government is accelerating the transition towards PNG (Piped Natural Gas) by fast-tracking infrastructure approvals and incentivising connections for households and commercial establishments.

Ports, Evacuations and Maritime Operations Normal

India’s port operations remain fully functional with no congestion reported, ensuring smooth logistics and supply chains.

Meanwhile, evacuation efforts continue for Indian nationals in West Asia:

  • Over 938 Indian seafarers repatriated
  • Around 5 lakh passengers have returned to India

States Asked to Counter Rumours

To combat misinformation, States and Union Territories have been advised to conduct daily press briefings, with 14 States already implementing this measure.

No Cause for Concern

The government emphasised that India’s energy ecosystem remains stable, resilient, and well-managed, despite global uncertainties.

Citizens are advised to avoid panic buying and rely only on official information sources.
