Petroleum Secretary to Inaugurate India’s Premier Global Geoscience Summit “SPG 2025” in Jaipur Tomorrow

Over 700 International Delegates from 10+ Countries to Deliberate on Energy Security and Digital Transformation from October 26–28, 2025

Pankaj Jain, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas

Pankaj Jain, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), Government of India, will inaugurate the 15th Biennial International Conference and Exposition of the Society of Petroleum Geophysicists (SPG-2025) on Sunday, October 26, in Jaipur. The three-day summit, being held at the Novotel Jaipur Convention Centre and Jaipur Exhibition and Convention Centre (JECC) from October 26–28, 2025, will serve as India’s premier global forum on petroleum geoscience under the theme “Rock to Cloud: Geo-Exploration Empowering Energy Evolution.”

Arun Kumar Singh, Chairman & CEO of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation

The inaugural session will be graced by leading industry figures, including Arun Kumar Singh, Chairman & CEO of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and Chief Patron of SPG-India; Dr. Ranjit Rath, CMD, Oil India Limited; O.P. Sinha, Director (Exploration), ONGC and Patron of SPG-India; and Ranbir Singh, President, SPG-India.

Global Platform to Shape India’s Energy Pathway

SPG-2025 will act as a critical platform for policy leaders, CEOs, scientists, and technologists to deliberate on India’s energy roadmap, particularly as the nation’s energy demand is projected to nearly double by 2040. The conference will explore the transition from subsurface geoscience (“rock”) to digital transformation (“cloud”), addressing challenges in sustainable and low-carbon energy development.

Over 700 delegates from 10+ countries will participate in four plenary sessions, 20+ technical sessions, and several special theme and invited lectures. A unique Hindi technical session will also be featured. The international exposition will showcase the latest innovations in exploration and production (E&P), technology, and digital tools from global leaders.

Industry-Academia Collaboration for a Sustainable Future

The summit will bring together global E&P majors including ONGC, ONGC Videsh, Oil India, BP, Eliis, Dig Science, Baker Hughes, Shearwater, Sercel, Geosoftware, Beicip Franlab, Viridien, Emerson Aspentech, and Solytics Partners, along with top academic institutions such as IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, IIT Roorkee, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Dibrugarh University, Andhra University, Banaras Hindu University, Pandit Deendayal Energy University, and Jadavpur University.

This industry–academia partnership aims to accelerate research, innovation, and skill development to strengthen India’s energy security and sustainability.

Empowering the Next Generation of Geoscientists

A highlight of SPG-2025 is its Student Programme, designed to inspire, engage, and empower young geoscientists through interactive events such as the SPG Mastermind Quiz, Upstream Strategy Business Game, and Exploreathon. The Industry–Academia Interaction sessions will connect students with global experts for mentorship and networking.

The SPG–SLB Hackathon 2025, organized with SLB Innovation Factori, New Delhi, will debut as a hybrid competition integrating geoscience and digital innovation. The SPG Geoscience Career Symposium 2025 will serve as a focused recruitment and mentorship platform, bridging academia and industry by linking students with top energy employers.

Post-conference, ten Continuing Education (CE) courses will be conducted by distinguished faculty on contemporary topics in geophysics, digital exploration, and energy transition.

SPG: India’s Apex Body in Petroleum Geoscience

Founded in 1992 in Dehradun, the Society of Petroleum Geophysicists (SPG), India, has evolved into a globally recognized professional organization with over 3,500 members and nine regional chapters. Closely affiliated with the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG, USA), the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE, Netherlands), and the Australian Society of Exploration Geophysicists (ASEG), SPG promotes research, collaboration, and innovation in petroleum geoscience.

With 18 active student chapters across India, SPG continues to nurture the next generation of geoscientists and strengthen India’s leadership in exploration and sustainable energy.

About Geophysics

Geophysics — the scientific foundation of petroleum exploration — involves the non-invasive study of the Earth’s subsurface using measurements of physical properties such as density, resistivity, seismic velocity, and magnetic susceptibility. Its applications extend beyond oil and gas to mineral exploration, groundwater studies, geohazard identification, environmental assessment, and archaeological exploration.
