Over 3 lakh women from Self-Help Groups have become Lakhpati Didi in Bihar

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, after a high-level meeting held at the Patna Secretariat auditorium, announced a slew of developmental initiatives set to benefit Bihar, with a special focus on rural infrastructure and empowerment. He stated that the Central Government has continued its commitment to Bihar’s development by extending multiple welfare schemes to the people of the state.

Highlighting the significance of Panchayati Raj Day on April 24, the Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Bihar on the occasion and participate in a national conference of elected Panchayati Raj representatives, which will be joined by stakeholders from across the country.

“Many new schemes will be inaugurated and foundation stones laid during the Prime Minister’s visit. These will include key initiatives under the Rural Development Department,” Chouhan stated.

He further informed that under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), 7.9 lakh houses were provided to the underprivileged in Bihar last year. An additional 5.2 lakh houses, which were previously pending, will now be sanctioned and constructed. The total cost of constructing these 5.2 lakh houses is estimated at ₹8,000 crore, aimed at strengthening housing infrastructure in rural areas.

A major public gathering and historic program is scheduled to be held in Madhubani, where lakhs of people are expected to attend and witness the rollout of these schemes.

Praising the efforts of the Bihar government, the Union Minister said that rural development schemes are being effectively implemented in the state. “Over 3 lakh women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) have become Lakhpati Didis in the state . The government has now set an ambitious target to increase this number to 20 lakh Lakhpati Didis by the end of the year,” he added.

The upcoming visit of the Prime Minister and the announcements are being seen as a significant push towards rural empowerment and infrastructural growth in Bihar, ahead of Panchayati Raj Day celebrations.
