Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh to Lay Foundation Stone of BEML’s “Brahma” Greenfield Rolling Stock Manufacturing Plant in Madhya Pradesh
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan stated that the upcoming project is expected to generate employment for over 2,000 individuals

In a landmark step towards strengthening India’s journey to self-reliance, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will lay the foundation stone of BEML’s cutting-edge “Brahma” Greenfield Rolling Stock Manufacturing Plant on August 10 in Umaria, located in the Bhojpur assembly constituency under the Vidisha parliamentary seat of Madhya Pradesh.
The foundation-laying ceremony will also be graced by Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav.
This modern manufacturing facility is being developed by BEML Ltd., a leading public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, at a project cost of ₹18,100 crore. The “Brahma” plant will be equipped with world-class capabilities for design, manufacturing, assembly, and testing of next-generation rail and metro coaches such as Vande Bharat, along with select defence equipment.
Highlighting the socio-economic impact of the project, Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the facility will generate employment for over 2,000 local youths, creating opportunities for the “sons and daughters of the region.” He termed the initiative a “historic step” towards Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India).
“This plant will not only accelerate industrial development in the region but also support India’s growing demand for modern transport infrastructure and bolster our defence manufacturing ecosystem,” Chouhan said.
The “Brahma” facility is expected to become a cornerstone in India’s efforts to localize production of key transport and defence components, contributing significantly to the Make in India and Viksit Bharat missions.
