Repair Of 6,043 Km Of Rural Roads Completed In Bihar; ₹3,059 Crore Spent

Only ₹106 Crore was spent in 2006-07, marked improvement in Rural Road Infrastructure

The Bihar government has achieved a significant milestone in rural development by completing the maintenance of 6,043 kilometers of rural roads in the financial year 2024-25 under the Mukhyamantri Gramin Path Anurakshan (Repair) Yojana. A total of ₹3,059 crore was spent on the project, out of the ₹3,294 crore sanctioned to the concerned department.

This ambitious program is being implemented under the Bihar Rural Path Maintenance Policy, 2018, which aims to ensure consistent and high-quality upkeep of rural roads after their construction. The goal is to maintain village connectivity and prevent deterioration in road quality over time. The policy is playing a vital role in bolstering the state’s rural infrastructure.

Official data indicates a significant rise in investment under this scheme over the years. In comparison to just ₹106 crore spent in 2006-07, the 2024-25 expenditure stands at ₹3,059 crore—reflecting the state government’s increasing commitment to rural connectivity.

The positive impact of this initiative is visible across Bihar. Improved roads have made it easier for farmers to access markets, students to reach schools, and villagers to avail healthcare services.

The Mukhyamantri Gramin Path Maintenance Program is fast becoming a cornerstone of Bihar’s rural development. By ensuring the repair and maintenance of connecting roads, it is not only enhancing accessibility but also actively contributing to the holistic development of the state by integrating remote villages with the mainstream.
