South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a leading subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL), unveiled an India Post “Special Cover” to commemorate Coal India’s Golden Jubilee and SECL’s Ruby Jubilee (40 years) of dedicated service to the nation’s energy sector. A Special Cancellation Cachet was also released on the occasion.

The ceremonial release took place in the presence of P. M. Prasad, Chairman, Coal India Limited; Harish Duhan, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, SECL; Functional Directors; the Chief Vigilance Officer; and Dinesh Kumar Mistry (IPoS), DPS (HQ), Chhattisgarh Circle, Raipur.

Issued in collaboration with the Department of Posts, Chhattisgarh Postal Circle, the Special Cover is a collectible philatelic tribute celebrating landmark achievements in India’s industrial and institutional history. It highlights Coal India’s five-decade legacy of powering the nation and SECL’s four decades of operational excellence and innovation in coal mining.

This initiative forms part of Special Campaign 5.0, a Government of India programme promoting cleanliness, record management, and the celebration of public sector accomplishments.

Established in 1975, Coal India Limited—the world’s largest coal-producing company—has been the cornerstone of India’s energy security, meeting more than 70% of the country’s coal demand. In its Golden Jubilee year, CIL achieved record-breaking coal production, dispatch, and overburden removal, contributing to the historic 1 billion tonnes coal production milestone achieved by India’s coal sector in FY 2024–25.

As one of Coal India’s largest subsidiaries, SECL has played a pivotal role in this success. Operating primarily in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, SECL’s Gevra Mine—the largest coal mine in Asia—epitomizes technological advancement and operational efficiency. Beyond production, SECL is deeply committed to sustainable mining, environmental protection, and social welfare, implementing extensive CSR initiatives in healthcare, education, skill development, and ecological restoration.

The Special Cover and Cachet together symbolize the shared legacy of Coal India and SECL—enterprises that have powered India’s progress with an enduring commitment to sustainability, responsibility, and nation-building.
