South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a key arm of Coal India Limited, has achieved a remarkable milestone in FY 2025–26 by becoming the only subsidiary to register positive growth across all three critical performance parameters—coal production, offtake, and overburden removal (OBR).
Strong Performance Across Core Metrics
SECL recorded coal production of 176.2 million tonnes, reflecting a 5.26% growth (8.8 MT) over the previous year.
Coal offtake stood at 178.6 million tonnes, marking a 4.6% increase (7.9 MT).
The company also reported robust logistics growth:
Rail despatch increased by 16%
First Mile Connectivity (FMC) despatch surged by 28%
In overburden removal, SECL achieved a record 364.3 million cubic metres, ensuring enhanced future coal readiness.
Additionally, land acquisition reached 358 hectares, registering a massive 867% growth, supporting expansion plans.
Focus on Environment & Sustainability
SECL continued its commitment to sustainable mining practices:
13.96 lakh saplings planted, including Miyawaki plantations
43.78 MW solar capacity commissioned, reducing ~41,200 tonnes of CO₂ emissions
408 lakh kilolitres of mine water utilised, irrigating over 3,800 hectares
Capacity Expansion & New Projects
The company secured:
2.16 MTY incremental capacity through environmental clearances
39.02 MTY future capacity via Terms of Reference approvals

Coal Quality & Digital Transparency
Coal grade confirmation improved significantly from 68% to 75%.
SECL’s digital initiative ‘DigiCOAL’ enhanced real-time monitoring and transparency and received national recognition from the Central Vigilance Commission.
SECL undertook procurement worth ₹25,799 crore through GeM, marking a record.
The company also secured top position for the third consecutive year in Special Campaign 5.0, highlighting governance excellence.
Technological Innovation & Infrastructure
SECL became the first coal PSU in India to implement paste fill technology, improving safety and sustainability in underground mining.
