Security Guard’s Quick Action Saves Lives; Prevents Major Gas Mishap in Vile Parle
MGL commends citizen vigilance; urges public to support ‘MGL Sahayogi’ initiative

A potential tragedy was averted in Vile Parle (East) recently, thanks to the presence of mind and swift action of a security guard, Ram Bahor, at Mahavir CHSL on V.S. Khandekar Road.
A fire had erupted in a nearby garbage dump following the bursting of firecrackers, with the flames rapidly approaching Mahanagar Gas Limited’s (MGL) live gas junction box. Demonstrating exceptional vigilance, Ram Bahor immediately extinguished the fire and isolated both valves of the gas junction box, effectively preventing what could have been a major gas-related accident.
Recognizing his prompt and responsible action, Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has commended Ram Bahor for his alertness and timely intervention that ensured the safety of residents and protected critical gas infrastructure.
Encouraging similar public awareness and participation, MGL has urged citizens to actively support its ‘MGL Sahayogi’ initiative — a public vigilance program that invites individuals to report any threats, unauthorized digging, or excavation activities near gas assets and underground pipelines. Such community participation, the company emphasizes, plays a crucial role in preventing potential mishaps and ensuring public safety.
To report such incidents, citizens can contact MGL’s helpline at 1800 2100 2100.
