Union Coal & Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy Visits CCL’s Magadh Sanghamitra Area, Meets Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren

Union Minister of Coal and Mines, Government of India, G. Kishan Reddy, continued his Jharkhand tour today with a series of significant engagements in Ranchi and Chatra, underscoring the Centre’s commitment towards modernizing the coal sector, supporting sports talent, and promoting welfare initiatives.

Earlier in the day, Reddy visited the Jharkhand State Sports Promotion Society (JSSPS) campus at Khelgaon, Hotwar, where he was warmly welcomed by trainees and coaches. The Minister felicitated medal-winning players who have brought laurels at national and international levels and inaugurated the newly established Physiotherapy Centre. In a special gesture, he cut a cake with 16 children celebrating their birthdays in September and presented them gifts. Encouraging the young athletes, he said, “You should bring glory to the country and the state with world-class performances.”

JSSPS, a joint initiative of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) and the Jharkhand Government, currently provides modern training facilities across 11 sports disciplines. Its trainees have so far bagged 15 international medals, 262 national medals, and 1,352 state medals.

Addressing the media in Ranchi, Reddy highlighted the newly built Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) of CCL, emphasizing the use of state-of-the-art technology in mining. He reiterated that the Coal Ministry’s primary objective is not economic gain but ensuring the nation’s energy security and contributing to the vision of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India). Later, he inaugurated the newly constructed Regional Office of the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) in Ranchi.

In Chatra district, Reddy visited CCL’s Magadh Sanghamitra coal mining area, where he received a traditional welcome from locals. From the viewpoint of the project, he inspected ongoing mining operations and interacted with officials, trade union representatives, and local workers. On the occasion, he distributed job interview letters to 24 displaced persons, engaged with women employees including safai karamcharis, and participated in a tree plantation program.
The Minister was accompanied by senior officials including Sanoj Kumar Jha, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Coal; Sanjay Lohia, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Mines; P.M. Prasad, Chairman, Coal India Limited; Nilendu Kumar Singh, CMD, CCL; Manoj Kumar, CMD, CMPDIL; and Manoj Kumar Agarwal, CMD, BCCL.
Later in Ranchi, Shri Reddy held a crucial meeting with Jharkhand Chief Minister Shri Hemant Soren. The two leaders discussed key issues related to coal production, the opening of new mines, and labour welfare measures, besides other matters of mutual interest.
