At the International Conference on Sustainable and Responsible Mining through Best Mine Closure Practices in Hyderabad, Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy released two key strategic documents:

Aluminium Vision Document: Key Highlights

Objective: Scale up India’s aluminium production 6-fold by 2047.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Increase bauxite production capacity to 150 MTPA.
  • Double the national recycling rate for aluminium.
  • Promote low-carbon technologies and green manufacturing.
  • Ensure raw material security through policy reforms and institutional support.

Copper Vision Document: Key Highlights

Objective: Meet a 6-fold rise in copper demand by 2047.

Key Targets:

  • Add 5 MTPA of smelting and refining capacity by 2030.
  • Boost secondary refining and domestic copper recycling.
  • Reduce import dependency by securing overseas mineral assets.

  • HCL, Hindalco, Kutch Copper, Vedanta, Indo-Asia Copper, Lohum
  • Indian Primary Copper Producers Association (IPCPA)
  • International Copper Association (ICA)
  • Strategic Role: Copper’s centrality in clean energy, EVs, solar power, and infrastructure development.
