The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government is taking major strides toward revolutionizing the education sector by turning 77 primary schools in Varanasi into modern, smart institutions. With a focus on both infrastructure and educational technology, the initiative aims to elevate government schools to a level where they can rival private and high-end convent schools.

Under the Smart City project, these 77 schools are being revamped at an estimated cost of ₹12 crore. The upgrades include everything from waterproofing school buildings to installing smart interactive boards, with an overarching goal to create a more conducive and motivating environment for learning.

Raising the Bar for Government Education

Basic Education Officer Arvind Pathak emphasized that the initiative is designed not just to improve the physical infrastructure of the schools, but also to enhance their overall appearance and functionality. “The project will change the image of government schools. This will increase public confidence and shift the trend back towards government institutions,” he said.

Key Highlights of the Smart School Project

  • Smart Interactive Boards: Teachers will now use digital tools to make classroom learning more engaging and effective.
  • Waterproofing of Buildings: No more leaky roofs during the monsoon—students and teachers can focus on learning without disruptions.
  • BALA (Building as Learning Aid): Educational wall paintings that turn school walls into interactive learning spaces.
  • Fresh Paint and Branding: School buildings, gates, and name boards are being repainted and redesigned to give them a vibrant and welcoming look.
  • Additional Classrooms: New rooms will be constructed as per the need to accommodate growing student numbers.
  • Inclusive Sanitation Facilities: Toilets for differently-abled students will be built, ensuring inclusivity and dignity for all.

A Vision for the Future

This transformative initiative reflects the Yogi government’s broader vision of enhancing the quality of education and promoting equitable access to modern learning environments. It marks a significant step toward bridging the gap between public and private educational institutions and is poised to become a milestone in the development of Uttar Pradesh’s primary education system.

By focusing on modernization, accessibility, and quality, the Yogi government is not only improving infrastructure but also instilling renewed faith in the government schooling system among parents and communities.
