Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami Reviews Disaster Relief in Bageshwar and Strengthens Disaster Preparedness in Dehradun
Relief and rescue operations intensified in Bageshwar; long-range sirens launched in Dehradun for early disaster warning
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited Paunsari village in Bageshwar district, which was severely affected by heavy rains on August 29, resulting in the burial of five houses and the loss of five lives. He met with the affected families, assured them of all possible assistance, and emphasized that the state government stands firmly with them in this difficult time.

At Government Higher Secondary School Baisani, the Chief Minister listened to grievances of the victims and reviewed ongoing relief efforts. District Magistrate Ashish Bhatgain briefed him on the operations, which include NDRF, SDRF, fire teams, drone surveillance, dog squads, and victim-locating cameras. Relief funds have been distributed and essential services restored. The CM also stated that rehabilitation efforts will be expedited and ₹52 crore has been sanctioned to repair the damaged 132 KV Pitkul substation.

Later, in Dehradun, CM Dhami inaugurated 13 long-range modern disaster warning sirens at Dalanwala Police Station, calling it a major step toward enhancing Uttarakhand’s disaster management capabilities. The sirens, with ranges of 8 to 16 kilometers, aim to provide early warnings during natural disasters like landslides, cloudbursts, and earthquakes—common in the hilly state.

He stressed the importance of public awareness, regular testing of the system, and the use of technology in disaster preparedness. The sirens have been strategically installed in crowded, sensitive, and disaster-prone areas to help reduce casualties and improve the effectiveness of relief and rescue operations.

During the program, contributions to the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund were made by retired police personnel, Uttarakhand PCS Association, and Uttarakhand Police staff. The CM also inspected the newly established Children Police Station at Dalanwala.
