IG ITBP Sanjay Gunjyal shared that the expedition will pass through 84 vibrant villages, promoting adventure tourism

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday flagged off the Himadri Trekking Expedition-2025 of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) from his Camp Office in Dehradun. On the occasion, the Chief Minister paid homage to the victims of the recent Ahmedabad plane crash and observed a two-minute silence in their memory.

Addressing ITBP jawans and officers, the Chief Minister lauded the expedition as a symbol of courage, strategic vigilance, and cultural preservation. He stated that a 45-member team from the ITBP will undertake a challenging journey of 1,032 kilometers, covering Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Ladakh, passing through 27 valleys and 27 mountain passes.

“This campaign not only enhances surveillance in strategically sensitive regions but also helps identify religious, historical, and cultural sites while promoting local traditions,” he said.

Highlighting Uttarakhand’s contribution to national defense, the Chief Minister noted the state’s proud history of sending a large number of brave soldiers to serve in the armed and paramilitary forces. He praised ITBP’s crucial role since 1962 in border security and disaster relief, and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to soldier welfare.

He outlined several initiatives taken for the welfare of soldiers and martyrs’ families, including:

  • Increasing ex-gratia from ₹10 lakh to ₹50 lakh
  • Extending job adjustment window for dependents from 2 to 5 years
  • Providing free travel in government buses
  • Stamp duty exemptions on property purchases
  • Special grants for daughters’ marriages

IG ITBP Sanjay Gunjyal shared that the expedition will pass through 84 vibrant villages, promoting adventure tourism and the local economy. During the trek, the team will also distribute 3.5 lakh fruit saplings to residents along the route, boosting environmental and economic sustainability.

Also present on the occasion were Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, Home Secretary Shailesh Bagauli, DGP Mr. Deepam Seth, IG ITBP Girish Chandra Upadhyay, and several ITBP personnel.
