Uttarakhand Police’s ‘Operation Prahar’: A Nationwide Crackdown On Cyber Crime

Uttarakhand emerges as a national model in cyber security; coordinated action executed across 17 states

From the serene hills of Uttarakhand has emerged a resounding message for cyber criminals across India: “No matter where you hide, the Uttarakhand Police will find you.” Under the decisive leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the state has launched a historic crackdown on cyber crime, marking a new chapter in national security efforts.

Titled ‘Operation Prahar’, this unprecedented campaign led by Uttarakhand Police saw simultaneous raids in 17 states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Kerala, and Goa. The coordinated effort resulted in the arrest of over 290 cyber criminals—a feat that stands as a milestone in India’s fight against digital crime.

This sweeping operation wasn’t just another enforcement action—it was the culmination of months of strategic planning, inter-agency cooperation, and technological strengthening, initiated by Chief Minister Dhami following a major cyber attack on Uttarakhand. In response to the incident, Dhami directed the upgradation of cyber police infrastructure, enhancement of intelligence networks, and deployment of advanced digital surveillance tools.

“Cyber criminals will no longer find safe havens,” the Chief Minister had declared—a commitment now proven by action. ‘Operation Prahar’ not only exemplifies Uttarakhand’s proactive stance but also showcases a robust model of cooperative federalism in policing, with multiple states and central agencies joining forces.

What makes this initiative particularly noteworthy is that it positions Uttarakhand as a national benchmark in cyber security, traditionally a domain reserved for more tech-centric states. The operation reflects the broader administrative vision of CM Dhami, whose governance approach blends swift decision-making, interdepartmental synergy, and public accountability.

Under his leadership, Uttarakhand is transforming—beyond tourism and spirituality—into a stronghold of smart governance and national security.

As Operation Prahar reverberates across the country, it sets a new standard in cyber crime prevention and underscores the message that good governance is not just policy—it’s performance.
