Fuel Supply Stable; Government Urges No Panic Buying Amid Hormuz Tensions
PNG expansion is accelerating, with 4.40 lakh new connections activated and 4.88 lakh registrations since March

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has assured that fuel supplies remain stable across India despite geopolitical disruptions impacting the Strait of Hormuz.
The government confirmed 100% supply of domestic LPG, PNG and CNG, with no reported dry-outs at distributorships. Citizens have been advised to avoid panic buying, rely on official information, and use digital LPG booking platforms.
To manage demand, authorities have:
- Increased refinery output and LPG production
- Extended booking intervals (urban: 25 days, rural: up to 45 days)
- Prioritised supply for essential sectors like healthcare and agriculture
- Promoted alternate fuels such as PNG, kerosene and electric cooking
Commercial LPG supply stands at ~70% of pre-crisis levels, with targeted distribution of 5 kg cylinders for migrant workers. Since March 23, over 14.3 lakh 5 kg cylinders have been sold.
Enforcement has intensified nationwide, with 2,950+ raids on April 13 alone, and strict action against hoarding and black marketing.
Meanwhile, PNG expansion is accelerating, with 4.40 lakh new connections activated and 4.88 lakh registrations since March.
Despite rising global crude prices, the government has:
- Cut excise duty by ₹10/litre on petrol and diesel
- Maintained stable retail prices
- Increased export levies to ensure domestic availability
The Centre has directed States/UTs to closely monitor fuel supply, counter misinformation, and ensure smooth distribution.
