Noida International Airport (Jewar Airport) achieved a significant milestone on Monday as it welcomed its first IndiGo flight from Lucknow, marking the formal commencement of its launch operations.
The historic flight departed from Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow and landed at Noida International Airport at 8:05 AM. The arrival signaled a major step forward for one of India’s most ambitious aviation infrastructure projects.
The occasion was marked by the presence of several dignitaries, including Union Minister for Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, Gautam Buddh Nagar MP Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh, and senior officials from Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) and the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA).
The inaugural flight carried several prominent leaders and officials, including Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana and Chief Secretary S.P. Goyal. The special flight witnessed overwhelming public interest, with all seats reportedly booked well in advance.
Speaking on the occasion, Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh described the event as a moment of pride for the region. He said the launch was not merely the beginning of an airport but also the realization of the aspirations of thousands of farmers who contributed their land to make the mega project a reality.
The new air service between Noida and Lucknow is expected to provide significant convenience to travelers. Until now, passengers from Noida, Greater Noida, and surrounding areas largely depended on Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport or long road journeys to travel to the state capital.
Officials believe the enhanced air connectivity will strengthen links between Uttar Pradesh’s key administrative and commercial centers. They also expressed optimism that more airlines may introduce services on this route in the future, further improving intra-state air connectivity.
Monday’s flight was part of the airport’s launch operations programme. Regular commercial passenger services are expected to commence in a later phase. Meanwhile, Noida International Airport Limited has already announced plans to operate the airport’s first cargo flight on June 17.
Extensive security arrangements have been put in place for the airport’s operational rollout. Advanced surveillance systems have been installed across the airport and runway areas, including facial recognition technology, behavioural monitoring systems, and automated suspicious activity detection mechanisms.
In addition, dog squads, firefighting teams, medical emergency units, and quick response teams have been deployed to ensure swift action in the event of any emergency.
Aviation experts believe that the operationalisation of Noida International Airport will significantly boost air connectivity in Uttar Pradesh. The airport is expected to benefit millions of residents in Noida, Greater Noida, and western Uttar Pradesh while also playing a crucial role in attracting investment, generating employment, and accelerating the region’s economic growth.
