GAIL Assures Normal Piped Gas Supply in Bengaluru Despite Global Supply Concerns
The assurance comes after gas supply to the 370 MW Yelahanka power plant was halted from March 12 in line with a new government directive prioritising essential sectors

GAIL Gas Limited has reassured industries, hotels, and commercial establishments in Bengaluru that the supply of piped natural gas (PNG) remains stable and uninterrupted despite concerns arising from the ongoing tensions in the Gulf region.
Addressing industry representatives at a session organised by the Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce on March 12, 2026, Sanjay Kumar Singh, Chief General Manager (City Gas Distribution) and Officer-in-Charge of GAIL Gas Bengaluru, clarified that there has been no disruption in PNG supply for connected industrial and commercial users.
Singh dismissed rumours of gas shortages and emphasised that PNG supply across the city remains fully normal for industries, hotels, and other commercial consumers.
The assurance comes after gas supply to the 370 MW Yelahanka power plant was halted from March 12 in line with a new government directive prioritising essential sectors. Under the revised allocation framework, domestic PNG, LPG production units, CNG supply, and other essential services will receive 100% gas allocation, while industries will receive up to 80% of their average gas consumption over the past six months.
Industries requiring additional gas beyond the 80% allocation can still procure it, though at higher market-linked rates, a measure intended to prevent excessive consumption and ensure equitable distribution during uncertain global supply conditions.
Officials also clarified that domestic LPG consumers need not worry about availability, as production levels have been increased to meet demand.
GAIL Gas Limited said the company is closely monitoring the evolving global energy situation and has put in place proactive measures to maintain uninterrupted gas supply, ensuring that commercial and industrial operations in Bengaluru continue without disruption.
