NTPC Bongaigaon Marks 21st Raising Day with Record Operational and Sustainability Milestones
NTPC Bongaigaon has achieved its highest-ever total ash utilisation of 115.3% since inception

NTPC Bongaigaon celebrated its 21st Raising Day at the plant premises with enthusiasm, pride, and a renewed commitment to responsible nation-building. The occasion was marked by strong operational achievements and record-breaking sustainability milestones, reinforcing the station’s position among NTPC’s top-performing units.

Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon, hoisted the NTPC flag at the Administrative Building premises, followed by the rendition of the NTPC Geet, ceremonial cake cutting, and release of balloons in NTPC colours. The event was attended by Anurag Gupta, GM (O&M), Kasturi Maitra, President, Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club, CISF officials, Departmental Heads, employees, representatives of Unions and Associations, and members of various welfare bodies.
Addressing the gathering, Maitra recalled that the foundation stone of NTPC Bongaigaon was laid on January 16, 2006, opening new avenues of development for the Bodoland Territorial Region, the North East, and the nation at large.

Highlighting the station’s operational excellence, he informed that as on January 15, 2026, NTPC Bongaigaon has generated 3,527 Million Units (MU) of electricity, achieving a Plant Load Factor (PLF) of 67.56% and a Declared Capacity of 96.93%.
A key highlight of the address was the station’s exceptional performance in continuous generation. Unit #2 recorded 319 days of uninterrupted operation before its scheduled overhauling in July 2025, while Unit #1 has surpassed this benchmark and is currently running continuously for 373 days. Maitra also noted that critical performance parameters—Auxiliary Power Consumption, Specific Oil Consumption, and Specific Water Consumption (2.55 litres per kWh)—have been maintained well within prescribed limits, underscoring the station’s focus on efficiency and sustainable resource management.
NTPC Bongaigaon currently ranks 4th in the Safety Evaluation Matrix and continues to remain among the top 10 NTPC stations in the Performance Evaluation Matrix.

Emphasising sustainability leadership, Maitra announced that the station has achieved its highest-ever total ash utilisation of 115.3% since inception. December 2025 emerged as a landmark month, with ash utilisation of 235,683 MT (313.45%), while the highest single-day ash utilisation of 10,596.70 MT was recorded on December 24, 2025. During the same month, the station also received 76 coal rakes, the highest ever, with total coal receipt of 2,84,861 MT. Overall, NTPC Bongaigaon achieved 113.5% ash utilisation during the year, the best performance since commissioning—reflecting its strong commitment to a circular economy and environmental stewardship.
Maitra attributed these achievements to the station’s dedicated workforce, describing NTPC Bongaigaon as a harmonious blend of experienced professionals and young executives whose collective spirit drives operational excellence, welfare initiatives, and vibrant township life. He urged employees to continue working with integrity, innovation, and social responsibility, while expressing gratitude to Unions, Associations, welfare bodies, and the Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club for their consistent support.

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, the Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club distributed over 85 school bags to students of Bhumki Lower Primary School, Salakati, located near the power plant, reaffirming NTPC Bongaigaon’s commitment to community development and promotion of education.
