NTPC Vindhyachal Dispatches 100th Pond Ash Rake via RCR Mode
The ash consignment is being supplied to projects of the National Highways Authority of India

Marking a significant milestone in sustainable operations and ash utilization, NTPC Limited’s Vindhyachal Super Thermal Power Station successfully dispatched its 100th rake of pond ash through the innovative Rail-Cum-Road (RCR) mode. The ash consignment is being supplied to projects of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), specifically for infrastructure development under the Ranchi–Varanasi–Kolkata Expressway corridor.
The milestone initiative was inaugurated by Sanjib Kumar Saha, CGM (Vindhyachal), in the presence of senior officials including A.J. Rajkumar, GM (O&M); M. Suresh, GM (Maintenance & ADM); and Mrinalini, AGM (HR). Representatives from EMD, AUD, MGR, and HR departments also attended the event, which began with a brief puja ceremony to commemorate the achievement.
The dispatch of 100 pond ash rakes through the RCR model highlights NTPC Vindhyachal’s continued leadership in environmentally responsible logistics and sustainable resource management. The Rail-Cum-Road system optimizes rail transport for long-distance movement while minimizing road usage, thereby reducing fuel consumption, easing road congestion, and lowering carbon emissions.
Officials stated that the initiative supports the productive utilization of pond ash in national infrastructure projects, contributing directly to highway construction while advancing circular economy practices. By ensuring end-to-end supply for NHAI works, the project transforms industrial by-products into valuable construction material, aligning with the Government of India’s sustainability and green growth agenda.
With the successful dispatch of its 100th rake under the RCR mode, NTPC Vindhyachal continues to set new benchmarks in sustainable power plant operations, reinforcing its commitment to environmental stewardship and accelerated infrastructure development across the country.
