SECL Installs 43 Bio-Toilets under Special Campaign 5.0
Initiative Aimed at Promoting Inclusivity, Sustainability, and Hygiene at the Workplace in Mining Zones

South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a leading subsidiary of Coal India Limited, has taken a major stride toward promoting clean, sustainable, and inclusive workplaces by installing 43 bio-toilets across its operational areas under the Government of India’s Special Campaign 5.0.
As part of this green initiative, 16 bio-toilets were inaugurated in SECL’s Sohagpur Area and 27 in the Bhatgaon Area, strengthening sanitation infrastructure in key mining zones where access to conventional facilities is limited.
Aligned with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, this effort underscores SECL’s dedication to creating eco-friendly and gender-sensitive work environments. The bio-toilets utilize microbial technology to convert waste into non-toxic water and gas—helping minimize pollution, conserve water, and ensure effective waste management.

The initiative also focuses on enhancing inclusivity and dignity for workers, especially women employees in field operations, by providing safe, hygienic, and accessible sanitation facilities closer to work locations.
Through this installation drive, SECL continues to demonstrate its commitment to responsible mining practices and improving the quality of life in and around its coalfields.
Special Campaign 5.0—held nationwide from 2nd to 31st October 2025—is spearheaded by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), Government of India. The campaign promotes cleanliness, efficient record management, and timely grievance redressal across Ministries, Departments, and Public Sector Undertakings.
SECL has been an active participant in the campaign, contributing through initiatives that promote cleanliness, digital transformation, and improved public service delivery, setting benchmarks for sustainability in the mining sector.
