Uber Partners with Delhi Government to Promote Cleaner, Sustainable Commuting Options
Free Metro tickets, discounted bike rides, EV incentives aim to reduce private vehicle use in the capital

In a move aligned with the Delhi Government’s push for cleaner air and sustainable urban mobility, Uber on Tuesday announced a set of initiatives designed to encourage the use of public transport, shared mobility, and electric vehicles across the national capital.
To promote greater adoption of the Delhi Metro, Uber will offer a first free Metro ride (up to ₹25) for users booking Metro tickets through the Uber app for the first time. The offer will be available from January 15 to January 21. By integrating Metro ticketing within its app, Uber aims to simplify access, reduce queues at stations, and make public transport more seamless for daily commuters.
Strengthening first- and last-mile connectivity, Uber is also providing discounts of up to 30% (maximum ₹20) on bike trips to and from Metro stations until February 11, making it easier for commuters to complete their journeys without relying on private vehicles.
For longer trips, Uber is encouraging Delhi residents to opt for cleaner and shared mobility alternatives. With nearly 1,000 electric vehicles currently operating in the city, Uber Electric will be available with a 10% discount (up to ₹50) until February 11, offering a lower-emission alternative to conventional cars. Additionally, Uber Shuttle, a high-capacity shared mobility option, is being promoted as a responsible commuting solution that helps reduce congestion by lowering the number of individual vehicles on the road.
These initiatives are intended to complement Delhi’s public transport ecosystem and make sustainable commuting choices more accessible and practical for everyday travel.
Commenting on the initiative, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Minister for Environment, Forest & Wildlife, Government of NCT of Delhi, said, “Under the leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta, the Delhi Government has announced a series of initiatives to curb air pollution. However, Delhi’s air quality challenge cannot be addressed without reducing the number of private vehicles on our roads. We appreciate efforts by shared mobility platforms such as Uber that encourage greater use of public transport, shared travel, and cleaner mobility options. Such initiatives support the government’s broader strategy to improve air quality and ease congestion.”
Amit Deshpande, Head – City Operations, Uber India, said, “Tackling air quality challenges requires collective action and coordinated solutions. We’re proud to support the Delhi Government’s efforts by making it easier for people to choose public transit and sustainable mobility options. Whether it’s discounted Metro tickets, reliable first- and last-mile rides, electric vehicles, or shared high-capacity transport, our focus is on enabling smarter and more sustainable choices for daily travel.”
Uber said it will continue to collaborate with transport authorities and other city stakeholders to scale solutions that support cleaner air and more efficient urban mobility in Delhi.
