20 Feet High National Emblem Unveiled At Ordnance Clothing Factory Avadi On Occasion Of 78th Independence Day
The OCF Avadi was established in the back drop of the Chinese aggression
It was another Historical day for the Ordnance Clothing Factory Avadi a Defence Production Unit under the Department of Defence Production. After Corporatization of Ordnance Factories the OCF Avadi is functioning as one of the Ordnance Factory under the Troop Comforts Limited. The Ordnance Clothing Factory was established in the year 1961 and the then Defence Minister V K Krishnan Menon and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister were behind the establishment of this Defence Production Unit at Avadi Chennai.
The OCF Avadi was established in the back drop of the Chinese aggression and the Government of India felt that there should be more Ordnance Factories to manufacture Troop Comfort Items to protect the body of the Soldiers who are struggling in different types of temperatures, environment, and terrains. Initially, the OCF Avadi was manufacturing only Uniforms for the Armed Forces. The Factory always faced the criticism as a Low Technology Factory despite the fact that Garment designing and Manufacturing is also a Highly Technical Job.
The Government of India has declared in the year 2017 almost all the items of Troop Comfort as Non-Core and to Privatize the manufacturing of those items. The Ordnance Clothing Factory, Avadi and its work force took it as a challenge and started in-house R&D for developing various Hi-Tech items. Today, after lot of intensive R&D activities OCF Avadi is established as No.1 player in manufacturing Body Armourer in Indian Market. OCF Avadi has also developed Light Weight Ballistic Helmet
Just to 1.1 kgs which has been tested and proved at third party Laboratories. OCF Avadi, has also developed Bomb Disposal Suit to the Police authorities which is capable to manage and neutralize explosive threats. Another achievement of OCF Avadi is the Factory has received Transfer of Technology from DEBEL a DRDO Lab for manufacturing of Flame Resistant Anti-G-Suits and Flame Resistant Overall which enhance the product portfolio of the Factory.
There are many Land marks for OCF Avadi. Already one of the best Cricket Play Ground and a peoples Sports Gallery has already been established in the Giri Nagar Estate of the Factory where District and State Level Cricket Tournaments are been held. As a part of 78th Independence Day Celebration Team OCF Avadi have decided to establish a 20 Feet High National Emblem in front of the Factory Gate to commemorate the 78th Anniversary of Independence Day which has now become another Land Mark of Avadi.
The 20 Feet High National Emblem with “Sathayameva Jeyatha” engraved on the four side of the pillar was inaugurated by B S Reddy, IOFS General Manager of the Factory in the presence of Senior Officers, Senior Federation Leader C Srikumar, General Secretary of AIDEF, A Mohamad Meera, General Secretary of LPF Union, Works Committee Members, JCM Members, CMC, LPC Members and large gathering of the employees of the Factory. This was followed by hoisting of the National Flag by the General Manager and then March Past, Cultural Programs etc., Silver Medals for completing 25 years of Meritorious Service and Cash Awards were given to the employees who contributed for Defence Production and other Developmental activities.
The General Manager also awarded about 63 Contract Workers who contributed for Maintaining the Factory Premises and Estate Premises to protect the Health and Hygiene of the employees and their family members.
