Bongaigaon Premier League (BPL) Season-5 Concludes With A Thrilling Grand Finale

The much-anticipated Grand Finale of the Bongaigaon Premier League (BPL) Season-5 under the aegis of Sports Council of NTPC Bongaigaon unfolded in a spectacular fashion at NTPC Bongaigaon, celebrating yet another successful edition of this highly popular cricketing event. The tournament, known for promoting sportsmanship, and competitive spirit among NTPC employees and their families, concluded with an electrifying match between Chakrashila Tuskers and Kaziranga Rhinos.

The event was graced by Debabrata Kar, General Manager (O&M), as the Chief Guest, along with Asutosh Biswas, General Manager (Operation) and Chairman of the Sports Council, NTPC Bongaigaon, A K Singh, AGM (FM), senior officials, players, umpires, and an enthusiastic audience. Kar, while addressing the gathering, highlighted the growing popularity of cricket within NTPC Bongaigaon and commended the initiative for bringing employees together through sports. Biswas, in his address, emphasized the significance of team spirit and extended his gratitude to the Sports Council for organizing the league with such zeal and professionalism.

It is pertinent to mention that the journey of the Bongaigaon Premier League began on February 14, 2020, and over the years, it has evolved into a much-awaited annual sporting extravaganza at NTPC Bongaigaon. This year, the tournament witnessed an overwhelming response, with over 130 players registering their names for BPL Season-5. The excitement escalated on February 6th, 2025, when a high-energy auction was conducted, leading to the formation of four dynamic teams—Kaziranga Rhinos, Manas Tigers, Chakrashila Tuskers, and Pobitora Panthers. Each team comprised 32 players and was led by experienced captains, with senior NTPC officials taking on the roles of owners and managers, adding a strategic dimension to the competition.

The Season-5 of BPL commenced on February 12th, 2025, bringing with it several new and exciting elements. For the first time, league matches were conducted under floodlights, adding a thrilling dimension to the tournament and enhancing the playing experience for participants. Additionally, a Women’s Exhibition Match and a Junior Match were introduced, providing a platform for female and young cricketers to showcase their skills and enthusiasm for the sport.

A key feature of BPL is its integration with modern technology. Every season, match scores are recorded using the CricHeroes live-scoring app, enabling players to analyze their performances, track their statistics, and enhance their gameplay.

In an exhilarating encounter, Chakrashila Tuskers secured a commanding 30-run victory over Kaziranga Rhinos in a closely contested match. Batting first, Chakrashila Tuskers posted a competitive total of 94/9 in 15 overs, setting a challenging target for their opponents. Despite a determined start by the Rhinos, their innings faltered under pressure, and they were bowled out for 64 runs in 12 overs. The disciplined bowling attack of the Tuskers proved to be the turning point of the game, restricting the Rhinos from gaining momentum in the chase.

Naman Bhade was the standout performer, earning the Player of the Match award for his all-round contribution. Delivering a stellar spell, he bagged four crucial wickets, conceding just 19 runs in three overs. His controlled bowling dismantled the Rhinos’ batting lineup, ensuring a convincing win for the Tuskers. He also contributed a valuable 15 runs with the bat, further solidifying his impact on the match. Chakrashila Tuskers’ – B. Dhanasekhar was recognized as the Best Batter of the match for his composed innings, providing stability to his team’s total. His knock played a crucial role in setting a defendable target for the opposition.

The match witnessed a commendable display of sportsmanship and competitive cricket, with both teams putting in their best efforts. The victory further strengthened Chakrashila Tuskers’ dominance in the tournament, marking their fifth consecutive final appearance and yet another remarkable triumph.

Earlier, during the inaugural ceremony, Debabrata Kar met all four captains, acknowledging their leadership and encouraging them to display true sportsmanship. Kar emphasized how BPL has grown into a cultural phenomenon within NTPC Bongaigaon, bringing employees together and strengthening the spirit of teamwork. The Bongaigaon Premier League’s unique auction-based team selection process remains a major attraction, fostering a sense of excitement and ownership among employees. The format has not only added a strategic layer to the tournament but has also helped in identifying and nurturing talent within the NTPC community.
