The Yogi government has constructed 37 Annapurna Bhawans in Varanasi (Kashi) as part of its initiative to upgrade fair price shops into multipurpose community service centers. These Bhawans are being provided free of cost to ration dealers to enhance their income and provide better services to the public.

Under the Amrit Mahotsav, 75 Annapurna Bhawans are planned to be built every year in Kashi. Since the scheme began last year, 37 buildings have been completed—21 in the current year and 16 from the previous year.

According to Chief Development Officer Himanshu Nagpal, Annapurna Bhawan is a multipurpose facility where ration dealers can operate public service centers and general stores alongside their fair price shops. Sales from general stores will be at market rates, providing an additional revenue stream.

To ensure transparency and eliminate malpractice, each Bhawan is equipped with e-POS machines and e-weighing scales, ensuring that cardholders receive their full entitled ration.

District Supply Officer K.B. Singh stated that 1,315 fair price shops exist in Varanasi, and Annapurna Bhawans are being constructed at strategic locations for adequate grain storage and better facilities.

Block-wise Completed Annapurna Bhawans:

  • Arajiline – 4
  • Badagaon – 5
  • Chiraigaon – 2
  • Cholapur – 5
  • Harhua – 6
  • Kashi Vidyapeeth – 4
  • Pindra – 6
  • Sevapuri – 5

The remaining 16 buildings under this year’s target are expected to be completed soon, further advancing the state’s effort to strengthen the public distribution system and rural economy.
