Steel Executives Association Pays Tribute To Fire Tragedy Victims At Ukku Nagaram

The highlights of the program were a blood donation camp, a tree plantation drive and food distribution to orphanages

A solemn memorial event was held at the Sea Bhavan Auditorium in Ukku Nagaram under the aegis of the Steel Executives Association to pay heartfelt tribute to the 19 employees who tragically lost their lives in the horrific fire accident at the Oxygen Booster Station of Steel Melt Shop-2 on June 13, 2012.

In commemoration, the Steel Executives Association, following its annual tradition, organized a series of welfare and remembrance activities, including a blood donation camp, a tree plantation drive, and food distribution to orphanages.

The memorial was attended by several key officials and employees, including Director (Projects) Shri Arun Kanti Bagchi, Director (Operations) Shri Salim Purushottam, Plant HR In-charge Smt. Bhanu, Head of Safety Department Shri Phani Kumar, Senior Specialist Dr. Rajasekhar, Head of Finance Department Shri H. Kejha, Whips Secretary Dr. Seshamma, SMS-2 Senior Officer Sambamurthy, along with numerous senior and retired officers, employees, family members, and trainee engineers.

On the occasion, condolences were also expressed for the victims of the devastating plane crash that occurred in Ahmedabad yesterday. Speakers emphasized the paramount importance of safety in industrial environments, reflecting on the tragic lessons of the past.

The blood donation camp, held in collaboration with Lions Club, JCIS, and the Homi Bhabha Tata Memorial Cancer Research Institute, saw the collection of 75 units of blood. Notably, former Visakhapatnam Steel employee D.V. Anil Kumar made his 89th blood donation, inspiring many attendees with his commitment to public service.

Saplings were planted in the C Bhavan premises as part of the tree plantation initiative, promoting environmental consciousness. Simultaneously, food was distributed to orphanages across the city with the support of the Steel Officers Association.

Prominent figures from the association present at the event included President Katam S.S. Chandra Rao, General Secretary K.V.D. Prasad, Vice President Telikicherla Srinivasa Rao, Joint Secretary Narasimha, Treasurer Lokesh Patnala, former President Garg, and Vice President Chandra Venkateswara Rao, along with several other executive members.

The memorial day served as a moving reminder of the sacrifice of the 19 steel workers and reinforced the ongoing commitment to safety, solidarity, and social responsibility among the steel fraternity.
