NHAI Reviews Preparations For Upcoming Kawad Yatra, Focus On Safety And Infrastructure

In view of the forthcoming Kawad Yatra, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) conducted a high-level review meeting via video conferencing to assess the preparedness and coordination required for the event. The meeting was chaired by NHAI Chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav and saw participation from key stakeholders across Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Senior officials including Vishal Chauhan, Member (Administration), NHAI; Principal Secretary, Public Works Department (U.P.); Commissioners of Saharanpur, Moradabad, and Meerut; District Magistrates; police officials; and NHAI field units were present.

The review focused on critical aspects such as water logging, pothole repairs, street lighting, unauthorized highway cuts, short-term road safety measures, and the installation of road signage. Yadav emphasized the importance of ensuring minimal disruption to both pilgrims and regular road users. He instructed NHAI officials to work closely with district administrations to deploy ambulances, cranes, patrol vehicles, and provide adequate staffing at toll plazas to facilitate smooth traffic movement.
Vishal Chauhan highlighted the need for strict safety measures at under-construction sites, including barricading, proper diversions, reflective signboards, and drainage management. He also stressed the importance of providing clean toilets and public conveniences along the route.
The meeting underscored a collaborative approach between various government agencies to ensure a safe and efficient environment for the pilgrims undertaking the spiritual journey.
