Publications Division Launches Chhota Bheem Comic Series to Celebrate Indian Storytelling and Boost Indigenous Content Creation

The Chhota Bheem comic series is expected to make a meaningful contribution to Indian children’s literature

In a move to amplify culturally rooted narratives and promote indigenous content creation, the Publications Division, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, today launched a new Chhota Bheem comic series at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The initiative aligns with the Government of India’s broader vision to strengthen Indian content across books, animation, films, and digital platforms.

The launch event included an engaging discussion on the creative journey of Chhota Bheem, one of India’s most beloved children’s characters, whose stories continue to resonate across generations.

Speaking on the occasion, Bhupendra Kainthola, Principal Director General, Publications Division, stated: “The stories we tell our children should carry an Indian essence. In a country where storytelling traditions have long been passed down by grandparents, the Publications Division is committed to reviving and sharing these narratives. The more we tell these stories in our mother tongues, the more grounded and culturally confident our new generation will become.”

The comic series, developed in collaboration with Green Gold Animation Pvt. Ltd., features the heroic adventures of Bheem—a strong, kind-hearted boy from the fictional kingdom of Dholakpur. Bheem’s tales reflect timeless values of friendship, courage, and teamwork, inspired by Indian culture and folklore.

Rajiv Chilaka, Founder and CEO of Green Gold Animation Pvt. Ltd., commented: “The Government of India is making concerted efforts to promote Indian content in animation, VFX, gaming, and comics through initiatives like WAVES 2025. With such support, India is well-positioned to become a global hub for creative content.”

The launch comes in the wake of the recent WAVES Summit in Mumbai, which emphasized building India’s creative economy by nurturing home-grown content that reflects the nation’s cultural identity. The Chhota Bheem comic series is expected to make a meaningful contribution to Indian children’s literature while advancing the larger national objective of popularizing Indian narratives across multiple platforms.
