Asheesh Kumar has taken over as Director (Business Development) of Coal India Limited (CIL). An accomplished mining professional with over three decades of experience, he brings with him rich expertise in operations, contract management, vigilance, policy formulation, project monitoring, and strategic planning.
Kumar began his career with Coal India in 1994 as a Graduate Engineering Trainee (Mining) at Central Coalfields Limited. He holds a B.Tech in Mining Engineering from the Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad and an MBA from Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra.
Before this appointment, Kumar served as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Ministry of Coal, Government of India. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in spearheading coal gasification projects, driving Coal India’s diversification into critical minerals, and forging global partnerships to build future-ready capabilities for the sector.
