Uttarakhand: IAF to Operate Chinyalisaur & Gauchar Airstrips
Pithoragarh Airport Expansion with ₹450 Crore Investment

The Uttarakhand government has given in-principal approval to hand over the operation of Chinyalisaur (Uttarkashi) and Gauchar (Chamoli) airstrips to the Indian Air Force. Meanwhile, the Pithoragarh Airport will be operated by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
An MoU between the state government and AAI has been agreed upon for the operation of Pithoragarh Airport, where expansion works worth around ₹450 crore are set to begin. The plan includes the construction of a one-kilometre-long airstrip at Gunji to facilitate air connectivity to the Adi Kailash region, with technical support from the IAF.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said the expansion of air services in border districts is crucial to address both strategic needs and the requirements of local residents.
