MOIL Starts Export of Manganese Ore as State Trading Enterprise

This step not only supports global supply chains but also strengthens India’s foreign exchange earnings

MOIL Limited has achieved a historic milestone by commencing exports of manganese ore from India as a State Trading Enterprise (STE). The company dispatched its first shipment of 54,600 tonnes of manganese ore fines from Visakhapatnam to Indonesia on 22nd August 2025.

The Government of India has designated MOIL as the STE for export of manganese ore below 46% Mn grade. As per the Trade Policy, all exports of such ore must now be routed through MOIL. For this first consignment, MOIL facilitated exports with a back-to-back arrangement with domestic suppliers.

Export of low-grade manganese ore, particularly Mn 25%, holds strategic importance since India has surplus low-grade fines beyond domestic demand. This step not only supports global supply chains but also strengthens India’s foreign exchange earnings.

Congratulating the team, Ajit Kumar Saxena, CMD, MOIL, lauded the achievement and underlined the importance of efficient operations and informed strategies to enhance India’s footprint in the global manganese ore market.
