Rich Tribute Paid to Dr. B.N. Singh, Visionary Technocrat Who Transformed Visakhapatnam Steel – RINL

Dr. Singh was instrumental in steering the company out of the BIFR phase and laying the foundation for its growth into a Navratna PSU

A solemn tribute meeting was held at the Steel Club MP Hall to honor the memory of Dr. B.N. Singh, the renowned metallurgist and technocrat, who passed away at his home in Lucknow on September 21. Dr. Singh, remembered as the turnaround leader of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP), was instrumental in steering the company out of the BIFR (Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction) phase and laying the foundation for its growth into a Navratna company.

During his tenure as Chairman and Managing Director, Dr. Singh introduced several pathbreaking technological changes, offered incentives to employees, and built strong morale among the workforce. His visionary leadership not only revived VSP but also positioned it as a key player in the Indian steel sector.

The tribute programme witnessed participation from a large number of employees and retired officials. Katam Chandra Rao, President of the Steel Executives Association, K.V.D. Prasad, General Secretary, and Vice President T. Srinivasa Rao led the gathering in offering floral tributes. Prominent union leaders including Adi Narayana, Ayodhya Ram, Mantri Rajasekhar, K.S.N. Rao, N. Rama Rao, Steel Club Secretary Shyam, Retired Officers Association President Maturi Srinivasa Rao, Former Chairman Shiva Sagar Rao, Former Directors K.K. Rao, Y.R. Reddy, N.S. Rao, and former Executive Directors S.N. Rao, Shankar, Ranjan were among those who paid homage and fondly recalled Dr. Singh’s invaluable services.

Speakers highlighted Dr. Singh’s deep bond with Visakhapatnam Steel and its employees. Although originally from Bihar, Dr. Singh last year instituted a gold medal for the best student in Metallurgy at Andhra University, reflecting his commitment to nurturing talent in the region. His daughter Reena Singh sent a heartfelt message recalling her father’s enduring attachment to VSP and its people.

In recognition of his contributions, Dr. Singh’s portrait was installed at the Steel Executives Association (SEA) Bhavan, which itself was constructed during his tenure as CMD. On the occasion, a free eye check-up camp was also organized at the SEA Bhavan premises in association with Akshaya Super Speciality Eye Hospital.

The gathering unanimously remembered Dr. Singh as a leader who combined technical brilliance with humane values, leaving behind a rich legacy for Visakhapatnam Steel and the entire steel industry.
