DGCA Reviews Airfare Trends Ahead of Festive Season Rush

Proactively asks airlines to increase flight capacities by deploying additional flights

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), under the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), has reviewed the prevailing airfare trends in the wake of the upcoming festive season. The regulator is mandated to monitor airfares—especially during high-demand periods—and to ensure that ticket prices remain within reasonable limits.

Taking a proactive approach, the DGCA has taken up the matter with airlines and advised them to augment flight capacities by deploying additional flights to meet the anticipated surge in passenger traffic during the festive period.

In response, airlines have confirmed the following capacity enhancements:

  • IndiGo: Approximately 730 additional flights across 42 sectors
  • Air India & Air India Express: Approximately 486 additional flights across 20 sectors
  • SpiceJet: Approximately 546 additional flights across 38 sectors

The DGCA has stated that it will continue to maintain rigorous oversight on airline fares and flight capacities to safeguard passenger interests and ensure smooth travel during the festive rush.
