KIIT placed in 501 cohort globally, 5th Best in India

Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT-DU) has achieved a remarkable milestone in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026, securing the 5th position among all universities in India.
Significantly, KIIT is the only university from Odisha to feature among the top 10 universities in India, marking a proud moment for the state and underscoring its growing stature in higher education.
Globally, KIIT has been placed in the 501–600 band among 2,191 participating universities and 5th nationally among 128 Indian institutions, a substantial rise from its previous position in the 601–800 band. This consistent upward trajectory reflects the university’s focus on global competitiveness and academic innovation.
Among Indian universities, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) topped the rankings, while KIIT proudly stands as the 5th best university in the country.
In the ‘Academic Excellence’ parameter, KIIT has been ranked 259th globally, showcasing its strong research and teaching outcomes. Times Higher Education evaluates universities across five major indicators, and notably, KIIT has excelled nationally in ‘Industry Integration,’ ‘Internationalization of Higher Education,’ and ‘Social Commitment (SDGs)’—affirming its reputation as a socially responsible and globally engaged institution.
According to THE, KIIT’s performance in the 2026 rankings reflects a decade-long transformation from local excellence to global prominence. The institution’s journey demonstrates that a socially inclusive university from Odisha can stand shoulder to shoulder with the world’s leading institutions through innovation, compassion, and quality education.
Expressing delight over this achievement, Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder of KIIT and KISS, said:
“Every state aspires to have a university ranked among the top 500 globally. I am happy that KIIT, only 28 years since its inception and 22 years as a Deemed to be University, has been placed among the world’s top premier universities in the 501 cohort. This accomplishment is a source of pride for Odisha specifically and for India as a whole.”
