PM Modi to Inaugurate Safran Aircraft Engine Services India MRO Facility in Hyderabad Tomorrow

The world-class centre is located at the GMR Aerospace and Industrial Park – SEZ at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Safran Aircraft Engine Services India (SAESI) facility on 26 November at 10 AM via video conferencing. The world-class centre is located at the GMR Aerospace and Industrial Park – SEZ at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad.

First Global Engine OEM to Establish MRO in India

SAESI is Safran’s dedicated Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility for LEAP engines, which power popular aircraft such as the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX.

For the first time, a global aircraft engine OEM has set up an MRO operation in India, marking a historic milestone for the country’s aviation ecosystem.

Large-Scale Infrastructure and Investment

Spread over 45,000 sq. m, the state-of-the-art MRO centre has been developed with an initial investment of approximately ₹1,300 crore.

The facility is designed to service up to 300 LEAP engines per year, making it one of the largest such centres globally. When fully operational by 2035, SAESI will employ over 1,000 highly skilled Indian engineers and technicians.

The plant features advanced process equipment to provide world-class engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul solutions.

Boost to Aatmanirbhar Bharat in Aviation

The new MRO facility is set to play a transformative role in advancing Aatmanirbhar Bharat in the aviation sector.

Indigenous MRO capacity will help:

  • Reduce foreign exchange outflow
  • Create high-value employment opportunities
  • Strengthen aviation supply-chain resilience
  • Position India as a global aviation hub

The Government of India has implemented several reforms to support the sector’s growth. Key policy measures include:

  • GST reforms (2024)
  • MRO Guidelines (2021)
  • National Civil Aviation Policy (2016)

These policies have streamlined operations for MRO companies by rationalizing taxes, reducing royalty burdens, and improving business ease.
