Captain Ganti Venkateswarlu Takes Additional Charge as CMD of Hindustan Shipyard Limited

He succeeds Commodore Girideep Singh, who retired on January 31, 2026

Captain Ganti Venkateswarlu on Saturday (January 31, 2026) assumed additional charge as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL).

Captain Venkateswarlu, who took over as Director (Shipbuilding) at HSL on November 29, 2024, has been associated with the shipyard since May 2018, when he joined as Additional General Manager. He brings with him extensive operational and leadership experience from both the Indian Navy and HSL.

An alumnus of the Naval College of Engineering, Lonavla, and the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, Captain Venkateswarlu served for over 25 years in the Indian Navy, including overseas assignments. His naval career includes stints on frontline warships and at Naval Dockyard Mumbai.

At HSL, he has worked across shipbuilding, submarine and ship repair divisions, and also headed Business Development, contributing significantly to the company’s strategic growth.

He succeeds Commodore Girideep Singh, who retired on January 31, 2026. During Commodore Singh’s tenure, HSL successfully completed major refit projects including the Normal Refit of INS Sidhukirti and Special Survey Programme (SSP), while advancing key programmes such as Diving Support Vessel (DSV) and Fleet Support Ship (FSS). Notably, HSL also emerged as L1 bidder for 18 Next Generation Fast Patrol Vessels (NGFPVs) for the Indian Coast Guard, valued at approximately ₹3,000 crore.

In the meantime, Public Sector Headhunter – The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has recommended Mr. Chandrasekharan Raghuram for appointment as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Hindustan Shipyard Limited and his final appointment is subject to clearance from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
