CMD BCCL Participates in National Workshop on Mine Closure and Repurposing Organized by NLC India Limited
Senior officials from Coal India Limited, representatives of various CPSUs, and nodal officers of TMCP Mines, BCCL were also present

The national workshop on “Moving Beyond Extraction: Mine Closure and Repurposing,” organized by NLC India Limited at Neyveli, concluded today after two days of intensive deliberations involving policymakers, mining experts, and representatives from leading public sector mining companies.
The workshop was inaugurated by Union Minister of Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy, who emphasized that scientific and well-planned mine closure frameworks must be integrated from the very beginning of mining operations. He noted that mine closure should evolve beyond a procedural requirement and become an opportunity to generate sustainable economic prospects, environmental restoration, and long-term benefits for local communities.

Addressing the gathering, Vikram Dev Dutt, Secretary, Ministry of Coal, described the workshop as a visionary initiative. He highlighted the growing importance of mine repurposing in aligning mining activities with environmental responsibility and community-centric development models being adopted across the country.
Manoj Kumar Agarwal, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), actively participated in the programme and engaged in discussions on sustainable mining practices and future-ready mine closure strategies.
The workshop featured expert panel discussions covering mine closure policy frameworks, environmental protection, social impact assessment, community participation, innovative repurposing models, and international best practices. Senior officials from Coal India Limited, representatives of various CPSUs, and nodal officers of TMCP Mines, BCCL were also present.

The two-day national workshop served as an important platform for knowledge exchange and sharing of best practices aimed at promoting responsible mine closure and advancing sustainable mining in India.
