The award distribution and closing ceremony of the 68th Annual Mines Safety Week – 2025 was held in a dignified and inspiring atmosphere at the Barka-Sayal Area of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL).

Ujjwal Ta, Director General of Mines Safety, Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The function was chaired by CCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Nilendu Kumar Singh. Directors, senior DGMS officials, representatives from industrial institutions, labour union members, media representatives, and employees attended the ceremony in large numbers.

The Annual Mine Safety Week was observed in December under the theme “Progress through Safety,” reaffirming the collective commitment towards ensuring the safety, health, and well-being of mine workers. Leading organizations including NTPC Limited, Tata Steel Limited, and Fair Carbon actively participated in the event.

The primary objective of the programme was to strengthen safety culture across the mining sector, promote safe work practices, work towards the goal of “zero accidents,” and recognize outstanding performance by units and personnel. Special emphasis was laid on strict compliance with safety standards, adoption of innovative practices, operational discipline, and the promotion of a responsible workplace culture.

A major highlight of the event was the safety model presented by the Barka-Sayal region. Based on sustained efforts in environmental protection, adoption of modern technologies, and implementation of safe production practices, the model was adjudged the Best Safety Initiative and awarded the first prize, showcasing the region’s strong commitment to safety and sustainable development at the national level.

Beyond the awards, the ceremony served as an important platform to reaffirm the mining industry’s collective resolve that “Safety is Paramount,” reinforcing continuous improvement and accountability in mine safety practices.
