Anupam Misra Recommended as CMD of Hindustan Copper Limited by PESB

Public Sector Headhunter, The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has recommended Anupam Misra for the post of Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL), a Schedule-A public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Mines, Government of India. The recommendation was made on Thursday.
Misra is currently serving as Director (Marketing) at The Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore Limited (FACT). His recommendation marks a significant leadership development for India’s only vertically integrated copper producer at a time when the company is pursuing expansion in mining and metal production.
Once approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), Misra will succeed the current CMD Rajeev Ranjan, who is completing his tenure at HCL.
Candidates Considered by PESB
The PESB interviewed five senior executives for the top post at HCL:
- Nagesh Shenoy – Executive Director, Hindustan Copper Limited
- Umesh Singh – Executive Director (Mining), HCL Corporate Centre
- Binod Kumar Gupta – Executive Director (Mining), HCL Corporate Office, Kolkata
- Rakesh Tumane – Director (Finance), MOIL Limited
- Anupam Misra – Director (Marketing), The Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore Limited (FACT)
Following detailed deliberations, the board recommended Anupam Misra for the prestigious leadership position.
Strategic Importance of the Appointment
The leadership transition comes at a critical juncture for Hindustan Copper Limited as the PSU accelerates its plans to increase copper ore production and expand mining operations to meet India’s rising demand for copper in sectors such as renewable energy, electric vehicles, infrastructure, and defence manufacturing.
The final appointment will take effect after formal approval from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
