IIM Jammu Launches Trekking-Based Leadership Programme for NTPC Managers in Lower Himalayas

A total of 44 NTPC managers from across India are participating in this immersive programme

The Indian Institute of Management Jammu has inaugurated a unique Trekking-Based Management Development Programme (MDP) titled Leadership Skills for Managers for executives of NTPC Limited in the scenic Lower Himalayas.

The programme commenced with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony at the IIM Jammu campus, marking the beginning of an experiential learning journey that blends outdoor trekking with structured leadership training.

Experiential Learning Meets Leadership Development

A total of 44 NTPC managers from across India are participating in this immersive programme, designed to strengthen leadership capabilities, resilience, teamwork, and strategic thinking through real-world challenges in a natural environment.

The inaugural session was presided over by Prof. Rajesh Sikka, Co-Chairperson, Executive Education and Consultancy, IIM Jammu. Programme Directors Dr. Ashish Kumar and Dr. Guangpuanang Kahmei were also present.

‘Skilling is a Continuous Journey’

Prof. Sikka highlighted the importance of continuous skill development in today’s dynamic environment.

“Skilling is a continuous journey in a volatile world. Programmes like these bridge the gap between theory and practice, enabling professionals to navigate complex challenges with agility.”

He encouraged participants to actively engage, exchange ideas, and build professional networks during the programme.

Aligning Leadership Vision with Professional Goals

Dr. Ashish Kumar emphasized that professionals often lose sight of broader leadership goals amid routine responsibilities.

He noted that the programme focuses on:

  • Experiential learning
  • Self-reflection
  • Collaborative engagement

He urged participants to realign individual objectives with a larger leadership vision and fully immerse themselves in the learning process.

Interactive and Immersive Start

The session included participant introductions and expectation sharing, creating an interactive learning environment from the outset.

The programme concluded its inaugural session with a vote of thanks by Shri Pardeep Saini, Programme Officer, Business Development, IIM Jammu. Participants were also taken on a guided tour of the campus.

Strengthening Industry-Academia Collaboration

The programme is being coordinated by the Executive Education and Consultancy wing of IIM Jammu, reaffirming the institute’s commitment to innovative, experiential, and industry-aligned executive education.

Set against the backdrop of the Himalayas, this initiative reflects a growing trend of blending adventure-based learning with corporate leadership development, offering participants a transformative experience beyond traditional classroom training.
