ONGC Achieves Key Milestone in Daman Upside Development Project; Begins Gas Monetisation

The DUDP project is strategically located around 180 km northwest of Mumbai and approximately 80 km south of Pipavav along India’s western offshore basin

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) has achieved a significant milestone in its offshore operations with the commencement of gas monetisation from the Daman Upside Development Project (DUDP) in the Arabian Sea.

In a regulatory filing dated March 29, 2026, the company confirmed that gas production has commenced from the B-12-24P platform, with output being transported to the Hazira gas processing facility in Gujarat.

The DUDP project is strategically located around 180 km northwest of Mumbai and approximately 80 km south of Pipavav along India’s western offshore basin.

Fast-Tracked Execution with Innovative Approach

With an estimated capital expenditure of around USD 1 billion, the project has been completed in under two years from the date of award—highlighting ONGC’s execution capabilities in complex offshore environments.

The company attributed the accelerated completion to the innovative deployment of a Drill-Deck approach, coupled with the strong performance of its drilling and production teams.

Boost to Domestic Energy Production

The commissioning of gas flow from DUDP comes at a time when India is intensifying efforts to enhance domestic hydrocarbon production and reduce import dependence.

The government’s Open Acreage Licensing Policy (OALP) continues to play a pivotal role in expanding exploration opportunities. Recent bidding rounds—OALP Round-X and Round-XI—have collectively opened up over 2.6 lakh square kilometres of exploration acreage.

An elated Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, took to X (formerly Twitter) where he wrote “This is a decisive step aligned with the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Sh @narendramodi Ji under #SamudraManthan: fast-tracking bidding, expanding acreage, and strengthening India’s energy security.”

Strengthening Offshore Portfolio

The successful operationalisation of the Daman Upside Development Project reinforces ONGC’s position as India’s leading upstream energy major and reflects its continued focus on leveraging technology and innovation to maximise output from offshore assets.
