Sanjay Jamuar, an ex-IRTS officer, brings with him extensive experience across Indian Railways, DMRC and several international transit ecosystems spanning the UK, USA, France, the Middle East and Europe

In a significant move aimed at expanding the global footprint of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, veteran rail and urban transit expert Sanjay Jamuar has been appointed as the first Chief Executive Officer of Delhi Metro International Limited (DMIL), the newly created international arm of DMRC. The appointment marks the formal operational launch of DMIL, which has been established with government support to undertake metro rail projects and Operation & Maintenance (O&M) assignments across India beyond Delhi as well as in overseas markets.
DMIL has been entrusted with a broad mandate to provide consultancy and advisory services to metro authorities, governments and financial institutions for planning, improving and developing long-term urban transit systems. The new entity will leverage DMRC’s nearly three decades of technical expertise in metro construction, operations, maintenance, project management and capacity building, thereby positioning itself as a specialised global mobility solutions provider.
Sanjay Jamuar, an ex-IRTS officer, brings with him extensive experience across Indian Railways, DMRC and several international transit ecosystems spanning the UK, USA, France, the Middle East and Europe. He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Strategic Leadership from Warwick Business School, UK, and has also undertaken research at Leeds University in Transport Economics. Notably, when he joined DMRC in 1998, he was its first Operations and Maintenance employee, making his return to lead DMIL a symbolic homecoming as the organisation enters a new international growth phase.
The creation of DMIL comes at a time when DMRC has already established itself as one of India’s most credible metro consultants. The corporation is currently associated with the Dhaka Metro Project in Bangladesh, besides handling key O&M contracts for Chennai, Mumbai and Patna Metro systems. It has also provided consultancy support to almost every major metro rail project in the country and executed construction assignments in cities such as Mumbai, Jaipur and Patna.
With Jamuar at the helm, DMIL is now expected to aggressively pursue international consultancy, execution and O&M opportunities, transforming DMRC from a successful domestic metro operator into a globally recognised urban transit solutions institution.
