Coal Ministry to Hold Mega Roadshow on Rs 37,500 Crore Coal Gasification Push Tomorrow
Centre Targets 100 MT Coal Gasification by 2030; Scheme Expected to Attract Rs 3 Lakh Crore Investment

The Ministry of Coal will organize a major Roadshow in New Delhi on May 28 to promote Surface Coal and Lignite Gasification Projects under its ambitious Rs 37,500 crore incentive scheme aimed at accelerating cleaner and value-added utilisation of India’s vast coal reserves.
Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy and Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey will attend the event along with senior officials including Coal Secretary Vikram Dev Dutt and Additional Secretary Sanoj Kumar Jha.
The Roadshow is part of the Ministry’s broader strategy to build a robust coal gasification ecosystem in the country and attract participation from policymakers, state governments, investors, industry leaders, technology providers, and financial institutions.
The newly launched scheme is a major step toward achieving India’s target of gasifying 100 Million Tonnes (MT) of coal by 2030. The initiative is expected to significantly reduce the country’s dependence on imports of LNG, methanol, ammonia, and urea while strengthening long-term energy security.
According to the Ministry, the scheme is likely to mobilize investments worth nearly Rs 2.5 lakh crore to Rs 3 lakh crore and generate around 50,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities across nearly 25 projects in coal-bearing regions.
The government estimates that utilisation of 75 MT of coal and lignite under the scheme could generate annual revenues of nearly Rs 6,300 crore, apart from additional downstream revenue through GST and other levies.
The initiative builds upon the National Coal Gasification Mission launched in 2021 and the earlier Rs 8,500 crore coal gasification schemes approved in January 2024. Under those schemes, incentives worth Rs 6,233 crore have already been earmarked for eight projects currently under implementation.
Coal gasification is increasingly being seen as a strategic technology for converting domestic coal and lignite into high-value products such as syngas, methanol, ammonia, synthetic natural gas, cleaner fuels, and chemical feedstock.
The Ministry said the Roadshow will provide a platform for stakeholders to explore partnerships and accelerate implementation of surface coal and lignite gasification projects, reinforcing the government’s focus on cleaner coal technologies and the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
