BHEL Showcases Indigenous Coal Gasification Technology at Ministry of Coal Roadshow in New Delhi

BHEL remains a pioneer in the development of indigenous coal gasification technology through its Pressurised Fluidised Bed Gasification (PFBG) technology

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited participated in the “Roadshow to Promote Surface Coal/Lignite Gasification,” organised under the aegis of the Ministry of Coal on May 28, 2026, in New Delhi. The roadshow was organised to promote investments and accelerate the development of a robust coal gasification ecosystem in the country.

During the event, BHEL showcased its technological capabilities and expertise in the field of coal gasification, highlighting its contribution towards India’s clean coal technology initiatives and energy security goals.

G. Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of Coal & Mines, and Satish Chandra Dubey, Minister of State for Coal & Mines, visited the BHEL stall and interacted with the company’s team during the exhibition.

BHEL remains a pioneer in the development of indigenous coal gasification technology through its Pressurised Fluidised Bed Gasification (PFBG) technology. The company has successfully demonstrated gasification of high-ash Indian coal, a significant technological achievement considering the challenging characteristics of domestic coal reserves.

The Ministry of Coal’s roadshow focused on promoting the newly launched ₹37,500-crore scheme for surface coal and lignite gasification projects, aimed at supporting India’s target of gasifying 100 million tonnes of coal by 2030. The initiative is expected to reduce dependence on imports of LNG, methanol, ammonia and urea, while strengthening the country’s energy security.

The event brought together policymakers, industry leaders, investors, technology providers, financial institutions and public sector enterprises to deliberate on opportunities and partnerships in the emerging coal gasification sector.

BHEL’s participation in the roadshow underscores its continued commitment to supporting the Government of India’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat through indigenous clean coal technologies and advanced energy solutions.
