From Water Scarcity to Smiles: SECL Sohagpur Area Brings Regular Drinking Water Supply to Bakhi Village

SECL's community-focused initiative in Shahdol district transforms daily life for villagers by ensuring uninterrupted access to safe drinking water

In a remarkable example of community-focused development, South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), through its Sohagpur Area administration, has transformed the lives of residents of Bakhi village in Shahdol district by ensuring regular and reliable drinking water supply.

For years, the villagers of Bakhi struggled with acute water scarcity, particularly during the summer months. Access to safe drinking water was a daily challenge, forcing residents to travel long distances or depend on irregular sources to meet their basic needs. Recognizing the seriousness of the issue, SECL’s Sohagpur Area took proactive steps to address the problem through a sustainable water supply initiative.

The company implemented a comprehensive plan that included strengthening water infrastructure and ensuring regular distribution of potable water to the village. The initiative has significantly improved the quality of life for local residents, providing them with uninterrupted access to clean drinking water and reducing the hardships faced by women, children, and elderly citizens.

Villagers have expressed their gratitude for the intervention, stating that the availability of regular drinking water has brought immense relief and improved public health and sanitation conditions in the area. What was once a village struggling for every drop of water is now witnessing visible smiles and a renewed sense of confidence among its residents.

The initiative reflects SECL’s commitment to inclusive development and community welfare in its operational areas. Beyond coal production, the company continues to invest in social infrastructure and sustainable development projects aimed at improving the lives of communities living in and around its mining regions.

SECL, a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, has been actively undertaking various Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and community development programmes across its operational areas, including drinking water supply, healthcare, education, skill development, and rural infrastructure enhancement. The Sohagpur Area’s efforts in Bakhi village stand as yet another example of how focused interventions can create meaningful and lasting change in the lives of people. SECL operates extensively in the Shahdol region through its Sohagpur Area.

As regular drinking water now flows into Bakhi village, the project serves as a testament to the positive impact that responsible public sector enterprises can have on the communities they serve.
