RINL Observes Smruthi Divas with Blood Donation Camp, Tree Plantation and Safety Pledge
75 Units of Blood Donated; Tributes Paid to Victims of Industrial Accidents

The Steel Executives’ Association (SEA) of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited-Visakhapatnam Steel Plant organized a voluntary blood donation camp and tree plantation programme at SEA Bhavan in Ukkunagaram Township as part of the observance of “Smruthi Divas” for the fourteenth consecutive year.
The programme was held in memory of the victims of the tragic accident that occurred at Steel Melting Shop-II (SMS-II) in 2012, in which 19 employees and contract workers lost their lives.
The gathering also observed a moment of silence and paid heartfelt tributes to the employees and contract workers who lost their lives in the unfortunate incident at RINL on June 8, 2026. Participants conveyed their condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the departed souls.

M.N.V.S. Prabhakar, Chairman and Managing Director of RINL, lit a candle and offered floral tributes to the victims. He also planted a sapling at the SEA Bhavan premises, symbolizing remembrance, environmental responsibility and commitment to a greener future.
Addressing the gathering, Prabhakar emphasized the importance of strict adherence to safety standards and best practices in industrial operations. He stated that safety must remain the highest priority at every workplace and urged employees and stakeholders to further strengthen the culture of safety across the organization.
Appreciating the blood donors for their noble contribution, the CMD lauded SEA for organizing the blood donation camp every year as a mark of respect to the departed souls. On behalf of Lions Blood Bank, he presented a shield to the Steel Executives’ Association in recognition of its efforts in promoting voluntary blood donation.
Senior RINL officials including A.K. Bagchi, Director (Projects) and Additional Charge Director (Personnel), G.V.N. Prasad, Director (Commercial), Vinay Kumar, Director (Finance), Subhasis Sengupta, Director (Operations), along with senior executives, union representatives, members of SEA, Lions Blood Bank, JCI Ukkunagaram Chapter and Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital participated in the programme and paid homage to the departed souls.
A total of 75 units of blood were donated by members of the Steel Family during the camp. The programme was coordinated by Lion M. Jagannadha Rao, Satyaprakash, S. Ravikumar and Mohan.
As part of the observance, the SEA committee also sponsored lunch for two orphanages in Visakhapatnam in memory of the departed souls.
